Australian spy agency warns foreign spies may be tracking dating apps Tinder, Bumble and Hinge | Northern Beaches Review
The country’s main intelligence agency is warning that Australians with access to sensitive information could be targeted by foreign spies on social media and dating apps.
“I have already highlighted our concerns about approaches on professional networking sites, but during the pandemic we have seen this threat spread. There has been an increase in suspicious approaches on messaging platforms like WhatsApp, for example “said Mr. Burgess.
“It’s an easy way for foreign intelligence services to target employees they’re interested in.
“ASIO also tracks suspicious approaches on dating platforms such as Tinder, Bumble and Hinge. My message to any potential victims on these sites is familiar – if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. “
It was a message that was later echoed by Senator James Paterson, Chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Intelligence and Security.
He said ABC News Thursday: “If you’re a six and they’re a 10, maybe it wasn’t your appearance that charmed them, maybe it was your access to classified information.”
