DOI aims to ease tensions in the offshore wind fishing industry

By Keith Goldberg (June 24, 2022, 6:08 p.m. EDT) – The U.S. Department of the Interior has issued guidelines to mitigate the impacts of offshore wind development on commercial and recreational fishing, but industry groups fisheries claim that advice is useless without mandates for project leaders.

The DOI’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management released draft guidelines on Thursday outlining ways for the offshore wind industry and lessees to mitigate impacts on fisheries in a multitude of areas, including location and design of wind farm projects, construction and operational safety, and financial compensation if a project disrupts fishing operations.
