In the latest development in Tamil Nadu, linked to the ballot, income tax detectives seized unrecorded cash in the amount of Rs 11.50 cr during a raid on the premises of the treasurer of Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) Chandrashekran. Chandrashekaran, Managing Director of Anitha HealthCare & Anitha Texcot India Private Ltd in Tiruppur, went under the computer scanner as Anitha Textcot’s offices at the Bridgeway Colony extension in Lakshmi Nagar, Tiruppur were searched by detectives from the ‘income tax. IT officials seized Rs 11.50 crore while detecting unrecorded revenue amounting to Rs 80 crore, the sources said.
MNM permanent chairman Kamal Haasan reacted to computer raids on his treasurer’s premises and said it could be politically motivated. However, Kamal Haasan said he would respond in more detail after getting more details about the raid. “Maybe. Let them give the details, then we’ll respond,” Kamal Haasan told reporters when asked if the raids were politically motivated.
Meanwhile, computer searches also took place on Wednesday in the offices and residences of DMK and MDMK leaders. According to reports, research was conducted in KS Dhanasekar of DMK and Kavin Nagaraj of MDMK. The electoral commission said on Wednesday that record seizures worth Rs 331 crore had been made so far in the four electoral states and Pondicherry as part of the expenditure watch process.
