A breathtaking new Fisherman’s Mission calendar has been released.
The charity that supports UK fishing communities in time of need has published ‘When the Boat Comes – UK Fishing Lives All Year’ which includes a series of stunning photographs and artwork of the harbors and of life in UK fishing communities as well as recipes from chefs who have supported the association for years as well as members of the public.
The Fishermen’s Mission held a competition earlier this year that allowed supporters, old and new, to submit artwork or a fish recipe based on a season of the year.
Hundreds of entries poured in and after weeks of decision making, the winners and finalists were selected to make up the calendar. Alongside the contest winners, the calendar features artwork by actresses Sophie Thompson and Caroline Quentin while food blogger and recipe maker Marlena Razali donated a Malaysian salmon curry recipe.
Julian Waring of the Fishermen’s Mission said, “We have a gifted volunteer, Graham Young, who often worked until the early hours of the morning leaning over images to design Calendar Gills, our truly amazing 2021 calendar.
“It has been a huge success and raised thousands of pounds. This year with Graham we have asked our supporters to help us. The schedule is wonderful and we hope it will be another successful fundraiser. “
The Fishermen’s Mission is trying to move forward with great enthusiasm in this year of its 140th anniversary. The charity depends on donations which are especially vital now.
Julian added: “Fundraising for our work has been difficult throughout the pandemic. The simple fact is that without funding our crucial role in caring for our fishermen and their families will end.
“Our work is based on building trusting relationships through face-to-face meetings at the dock, on fishing boats and through home visits. We’re sure people will love our 2022 calendar. , and every copy sold will bring hope to a fisherman who needs our help.
The calendar is available for purchase at Padstow Bookseller, The Great Cornish Food Store in Truro and The Edge of the World Bookshop in Penzance, see social media for other locations.
